so go forth and sew! please let me know of any issues with the pattern – its my first try so be gentle.
this chewie is about 50cm tall and made of durable pinwale corduroy, guaranteed to last for at least twelve parsecs. Wait a minute … a parsec is a unit of distance, not time! you lied to me, lucas! lied to me!

I’ll have to make one for my nephew…
Also, little know nerd-fact: The Kessel Run is a stretch fraught with black holes. If you make the run in less than 12 parsecs, it means you took the shortest possible route through the black hole spots without getting sucked into their gravity wells. You have to have a fast and powerful ship so you have enough power and speed not to be torn asunder. George has lied to us many times but after learning of the black holes on route to the spice mines of Kessel, I’ve forgiven him for the parsec thing. He still owes me for pillaging the rest of my childhood .
love it! a little star wars addicted boy says thank you so much!
this is so cute i might even have to watch star wars….

This is super adorable. I pinned it and just finished making one for my 1 year old. I have 3 sons who LOVE star wars. It will be a great gift! Thanks again, i will email a picture soon!
This toy is so cute! Thanks for the pattern! I just finished making one for my cousin for Christmas – The pattern worked great, no flaws there, but it definitely would be easier if the instructions on how to sew him together and stuff him were more specific. Thank goodness for my Grandma – she is a professional sewer and helped a lot.
I was able to improvise, but it was hard to sew the body together without detailed instructions. My Grandma and I didn’t know how to sew the legs and arms in AND keep an opening for stuffing, so I stuffed them beforehand and didn’t baste them onto the body\back. Only problem was they were really in the way while I sewed him together – I would like to know how you did that.
A few more things I changed:
Face – I didn’t cut the face hole in the shape of a heart, instead made the top of his head round. I like yours better though in that area – I wouldn’t change that again.
Teeth – I had a hard time with teeth; The fabric bunched up when I tried to sew them, and were ruined. I decided to sew them later on, but in the end refrained from any mouth at all – I like him just the way he is!
Fabrics – I used the same fabric for the entire thing EXCEPT for the face, where I used a lighter brown fabric. Also I used a regular fabric instead of Corduroy.
Ammunition Sash – This is the thing I probably changed the most. I sewed two pieces of black leather together, wrong sides together, then took 3\4 inch by 1 1\2 inch strips of Duct tape and put them onto the leather. Since I am a Star Wars geek, I looked Chewbacca up on Wookiepedia, and found that the ammunition boxes are held on by black straps, so I drew a thick black stripe down each piece of tape using a Sharpie. I discovered the sash was to long though – I had to overlap it and sew it together.
Claws – I used a sharpie to Draw three claws on each hand and foot; I think it really adds something to him!
Even with the numerous improvisions, I don’t know WHAT I would have without your pattern! Chewie turned out AWESOME!!!
thank you thank you thank you!!!
going to make one for my little chewbacca baby!
ADORKABLE!!!
Great pattern!
I made one adjustment when making this doll – I altered the size of the face piece to make it much larger than the hole in the front/head piece as it was just too hard to line up with only 5mm overlap. As the face piece is on the inside and won’t be seen I’d suggest to others to add a centimetre to the outside of the face – makes lining up fabric MUCH easier and ensure that stiching won’t come undone by any short or misaligned edges.
Thank you, THANK YOU for the lovely pattern. Made one for each of my three boys who absolutely loved them. Check them out! http://sandytoesandpopsicles.blogspot.com/2011/12/twas-night-before-christmas.html
P.s. Love your blog….long time follower!
I made a Chewy – not as cute as yours but still cute. Thanks so much for sharing
I hope the little guy who is getting him for his birthday enjoys cuddling him

Thank you for sharing this pattern. I made one as a gift for a secret santa exchange and everyone I showed it too LOVED it (hope the recipient feels the same).
I can’t wait to alter the pattern a bit (shorten arms and change face cut out) to make a Bumble (from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cartoon). I think my sister would get a kick out of that (Star Wars isn’t her thing).
