it’s almost chriiiiiiiiiiistmas! father christmas, are you reading? i think my friends and i would like to find these following items sub-tree.
oh. ma. gah. this baby, the zoku quick pop system makes frozen treats in like, SEVEN minutes!!! it could be black magic, voodoo, gypsy curse etc but frankly i don’t care because this is the bestest thing i’ve seen since the magic bullet. and you should see the accessories you can get for it to make really really seriously deeply fancy treats. want. want! waaaaaaaaaaaaaant.
i do believe this alexander girard nativity set is on every graphically inclined person’s wishlist. i’m not into nativity scenes but i would fall over myself to own anything alexander girard and is it not the coolest looking set you’ve seen?
truth bomb: this ‘type trumps’ game isn’t on my wish list – because i got it last christmas! and its so fun i wanted to share it. everyone loves typography. everyone. and if they don’t like typography i don’t know them. so buy this for everyone you know and while away those lazy holiday hours FORCING your relatives to take an interest in type!
i’m lucky to already own a couple of sanna annukka prints, but there is always room for more. her angel of the north print seems fittingly festive, wouldn’t you say?
and father christmas – pay attention, because this one is important, and won’t be around for next christmas! dig this: dog dreams, a 20 page limited edition letterpressed board book by michael wertz. so cool it could’ve been crafted in the icy tundra of the northpole!
so, father christmas the rest is up to you. don’t disappoint us.

and so begins the great lead in to christmas! what’s on my wish list for this month? these pretty things…
lifestyle illustration of the 60s and custom lettering of the 60s & 70s
by rian hughes, available at amazon.
as a longtime fan of rian hughes’ work it excited me to no end that there are now books of his inspirations to swoon over. i’m definitely hoping santa leaves these under the tree for me!
serge gainsbourg cover available from lord dunsby
lord dunsby aka steven millington is new to me, but his style is fabulously reminiscent! this re imagining of a serge gainsbourg album cover is exceptionally cheeky – i like it and i bet serge would too. i adore the typography.
the undeniable charisma dress, available from modcloth
this dress is breaking my heart a bit… the style just never suits me, but oh!! that color.. the bow.. the waist tabs! its all too gorgeous i can’t bear it.
dollhouse, available from rainbow puppen
a fabulously colorful and fun looking doll house. its almost as colorful as my house. now if i could juuust convince my son he needs this we’ll be set.
christmas ornaments, available from jonathan adler.
and you know there always has to be some jonathan adler on the ‘love list’. i nearly gasped myself into an aneurysm when i saw there were christmas ornaments! imagine having a turquoise branch tree festooned with these porcelain beauties. striking and seasonal!

oh jonathan adler, why do you do this to me? its like you steal my dreams at night and then make me spend all my money on those dream items. its torture is what it is. at least give me a job as a designer so i can get a staff discount on my dreams. buy yours here.
are my love lists getting too one note? i feel like there is always some lunch box cuteness, but people – i can’t tell you how much i love lunch boxes! they’re so useful. i use them for my son’s snacks even when we’re just hanging out at home. food seems a bit more fun when its in a cute plastic box. buy yours here.
eek! its a giant chocolate freckle for your floor! oh i love these rugs. i have no space for one in my house but the fact that they exist is enough for me. wouldn’t these be amazing in a child’s room? the colours, the textures, the whimsy. you should definitely buy one from here.
now these i have room for! apples and pears and candles oh my! which should i choose? i think i like the pears best. imagine a load of them hung in a tree for a summer’s evening picnic? yes please, pass the pimms. buy yours here.
who doesn’t love kate spade’s whimsical designs?! no one does sophisticated, witty pieces like ms spade. just look, its a typewriter, no its a bag, no its an ice breaker with that cute bookish boy at the coffee shop. buy yours here and start prepping those lips for cute boy kissing.

in the last love list i showed you some of my favourite handmade wish list items, and now i’m showing you what i wish i could’ve bought for my son’s birthday. i’m sure the the other parents out there know how hard it is to keep yourself restrained at present giving times! this year my son got some glow stars and a space activity set as well as a few little trinkets. but if money and spoiling was no option? look below…
ooooh i love little lunch boxes and containers and my virgo son is the same. i find little lunch boxes and bentos make for a fun and appealing way to serve healthier snacks in too. these sweet retro styled lunch boxes are available from not the high street.
and in further cute lunch box news: log cabin lunch box!! i think i want one of these just because it would match my son’s bedroom decor. and look, there’s an eager beaver in the window! my son really likes beavers, except for the one at the opening of peewee’s playhouse: “look at the naughty bieber eating the tree, mama”. that bieber sure is naughty! get your log cabin lunch box from lark.
i loved marbles, growing up. last year my son got a pretty rad marble run for his birthday but he’s getting to the age where he understands games a lot better. we played dominoes the other day just like my dad and i used to. my dad taught me how to play ‘cat’s eye’ with marbles and i treasured the standard birdcage marbles he gave me like gold! these fancypants handmade marbles are spectacular don’t you think? they’d be the gems of any marble collection. from akron marbles.
holy guacamole would you get a load of this book shelf! imagine having that in your room? wouldn’t it be enchanting? i certainly wish i’d found this store when i was looking for cute bookends. they’re much nicer than the ones i ended up buying. don’t settle for second best like i did though, buy some for yourself at graphic space wood.
and last but far from least!! the DIY color/decorate-it-yourself superhero costume! isn’t this fab? there are a range of costumes available including knights, kings, queens etc. i think i want a color-it-yourself outfit for me now. swoop over to ball and skittle for more info.

due to my mid year blog break i missed out on sharing my love list with you for august, so guess what? this month i’m doing two love lists! but as a special edition i thought i’d narrow this list down to just my etsy loves. seeing as i’m always banging on about the vintage section, its only fair i share some fellow ‘handmade’ section sellers. i must admit that some of these i already own in some form, but they’re just too awesome i wanted to share them with you.
dandy the lion feltie: this cutie is just so cute i can’t bear it! my boy is getting too old for cute little felt lions, but aww its such a cute lil lion that nonesuchgarden has created.
russian galaxy t-shirt: now, this i know my son would definitely like! it’s like his perfect tee: he likes foreign language (a lot. really this kid is obsessed with counting in japanese), his favourite color is brown, he’s way into space right now and um… it has the cabury chocolate logo on it! check, check, and checkity check! santa claus has been informed.
psychedelic leo lion print: this is one store i’ve bought from! i snapped up a cancer the crab print from their series of astrological prints because both me and my guy are cancerians and well, we both love awesome 60s design. these are all seriously cool designs though and no star sign will be disappointed.
purple horse print another print i’ve bought and can’t recommend highly enough – mine is a technicolor horse, though i do love the purple one too. such fabulous design it even got a mention when i spoke to a psychic! no joke, she described my living room and mentioned a horse picture that resonated strongly. spooooky. but oh so chic.
porcelain stig lindberg leaf ring: i saw this.. and almost died. my boyfriend generally knows when i find something awesome on etsy because he hears me mutter “fuuuuuuuuu…..” and turns to see me slack jawed and bug eyed over whatever i’ve found. well this morning i discovered he really does listen to my gasps and swoons. a little box arrived and inside was a ring, just like this one. aww! best wednesday morning surprise present ever!
felt flower brooch: it was really hard to pick a favourite from this store. i love them all. such fine, and well executed work on such fabulous designs. also: floooooowers. i love them.
fabric button earrings: i know it seemed like everyone was making these for a while there, but i bought some earrings from this seller and i wear them all the time! mine have blue flowers on them, but i could easily see myself wearing these green cuties lots too! i just love that fabric.
custom order applique leather bag: this was definitely one of my ‘fuuuuuu…’ moments of finding something amazing. that bag is just spectacular! and its so exciting that something so fabulous is from here in melbourne. i actually found the seller (scotatto) on etsy after seeing her cute brooches and wallets etc aaaall around town in the coolest of shops. but, oh.. that bag! i may never recover from its awesomeness. who wants to come to a handbag fundraiser?
carly the crafty chick print: ah s. britt! his work never fails to make me smile. great colors, sweet nostalgic style, and craftastic craftacular carly is so cute! there’s a reason this guy is so prolific and in-demand and one look at that cutie-pie print gives you the answer.
hope you enjoyed! stay tuned for the september wishlist, coming soon!

i know i just showed you all those fabulous presents i got for my birthday, but i couldn’t possibly deprive you of a my monthly wish list post could i?! no, i’m not a monster! i’m a girl (a girl who is in a silly mood) and there are always things that catch my eye and make me think ‘ah, but if only i had the money/space/need/skill’ – no doubt you’re the same. so after an arduous month of internet window shopping, what’s on the love list this month?

seen on anthropologie. oh hanging chair, i see you there, all knotted and groovy. you’re hanging from the fig tree in our garden and its early summer when the air is gently warm and the sun hasn’t reached its maximum kill-ray 5000 strength yet. and hanging chair, i’m sitting, swinging, maybe sipping a mojito, and you’re hanging and being fabulous. and i have great hair and i’m possibly wearing a sweet lily pullitzer shift…(whispered) i love you hanging chair.

seen on: next via retro to go. oh i see what you’re doing, stacking mugs… you’re all like “hey what’s up, we stack neatly” but really you stack neatly and have a cute 70′s design. don’t think i don’t see it – ‘cos its right there in yellow and green for everyone to see. and you know what? i like it. i applaud your colourful candour. the world needs more mugs – nay, products in general – like you!
seen on artic design. hackman summer casserole, i’m going to go out on a limb here and say you’re the second best looking casserole pot i’ve ever seen. i know its a big claim, but really you’re very good looking. and i don’t just say that to every casserole pot i meet. i like your pea pod, and you onion.. me? oh you know, i like to make soups and boil pasta.. y’know, the usual. wanna come up to my cupboard?

seen on saison. alain gree house print, you make me wish i had more children so i had more children’s rooms to decorate. “go on, just one little girl” i hear you say. but will you get up for those night feeds, print? will you change the nappies? no. you’ll just hang there looking so cute that i won’t be able to stay mad at you!

and YOU, vasa irregular shape 2 sculpture, are the hardest to bare of all! your only function is to be beautiful – and oh my, how well you’re doing that. i can see that you know my only weakness is art.. and i promise when i have a minimalist lightfilled loft apartment somewhere, i will buy you. you’re magical xx

time to see what’s on my wish list for this month. this is a very important edition, because my birthday is approaching and so hint dropping is at an all time high around this house right now. what to get the girl who has almost everything…?

oh my. its just spectacular – and so is the price tag – but it marries two of my favorite things together: 60′s counter culture design & fantasia. fantasia was the first film i ever saw (at the cinema or anywhere) and i’ve recently had the pleasure of introducing it to my own son. according to wikipedia the 1969 rerelease of fantasia was popular with the kids who’d come and watch it lying down in the front row with the aid of marijuana or LSD. to capitalize on this craze they even made this poster to woo those crazy stoners. can you imagine a film poster being designed to bring in, say, meth users? no wonder those hippies were anti establishment! damn the man and his amazing poster. anyway it worked, because that rerelease was the first time that fantasia had made a profit! poster available from artist direct.

next up is some slightly psychedelic footwear. i imagine this is what you’d wear if you were going to do some amazing kaleidoscopic bob fosse routine. none of that all-in black here, thanks mister fosse. it’s mauve for me! and before you ask, yes i do have outfits that these would go with. i have outfits of every color! i created the solution so this would never be a problem. available from modcloth.

an apple a day, they say. no one mentioned if it had to be cast iron or not. if i were to receive this, i promise you, i would prepare every meal in it. i like apples a lot. available from terrain where you’ll also find a cast iron green pepper!

i adore these paumes interiors books, they’re so jam packed with inspiration. i have a bunch of the kid’s room ones and don’t you agree that copenhagen interiors sounds right up my alley? i love them because they are a peek into real homes, full of loved possessions and hopefully happy stories. i can always find a little something to fire my creativity in a paumes book. available from lark (who now ship internationally!) do you remember my visit to lark?

i love vera, i inherited both my mum and my grandmother’s scarves and they both had a number of vera beauties that i now treasure. sadly my favorite has been pretty badly eaten away and i’m not sure i can mend it. i’ve kept my eye out for another of similar design, but haven’t found one yet. i can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book and pore over every single detail. grab your own copy of vera: the art and life of an icon.
so that’s my picks for this month, only time will tell what the birthday wish fair grants me. stay tuned!

in the words of burt bacharach “i’m wishin’ and hopin’ and plannin’ and dreamin’” for all of this pretty stuff! here’s what’s on my wishlist this month:
let’s ease into this gently, no billion dollar rugs this month (i’m not sure that rug was a billion dollars, but i didn’t want to look!) isn’t this sewing kit from modcloth sweet? i would buy it for the tin alone (if i didn’t already have 16,000 or so spools of inherited cotton). i feel like it could have been made just for me. its so perfect, with its mod-ish flowers and cheery gingham base! makes me want to thriftily repair things and make charming patchworks and wear gunne sax style frocks. but that sounds mighty time- consuming so maybe i’ll just not.

color it yerself you lazy slug! ooh with pleasure! this scandinavian inspired screen printed poster by summerville comes black and white and ready for your colorful interpretations. there are simply not enough occasions for coloring in adult life. too much form filling in, not enough coloring. i love the style of this poster. it is so my thing and it even looks a bit like my hand drawn style (you may not be surprised to learn i like drawing flowers. if you are surprised, hi i’m pilgrim an i’m a floral-a-holic). but back to this poster, wouldn’t it be a great present for a housewarming if you weren’t sure of their decor? they can color it to match whatever they like! genius.

more flowers (see i told you i liked them!) as seen on plasticland. i actually already have some measuring cups similar to this, but they’re (extremely awesome) love hearts, so alas there is no room in my life (or drawer) for flower-shaped scoops, but a girl can look, right?! ah… flower cooling racks. perfect for cooling a fresh batch of ‘lazy daisy’ chocolate cookies. i have no idea why they’re called lazy daisies, but they’re really yummy, quick and easy chocolate cookies. seriously, i was making them when i was seven years old. these are eeeeeeeasy cookies, people! leave a comment if you want the recipe.
have you seen this wallpaper before? when i first saw it i actually went slack-jawed and speechless for a while. there i was tripping through the internet daisies then bam! hazz-aa-waaaaa-paaa waaal-paaa… i think my boyfriend was moments away from calling a doctor when i stopped drooling and regained my faculties and pointed out just how incredible this jonathan adler wallpaper is. the blue and green one needs to come and live in my bathroom. want! oh jonathan adler, your products make me happy. why am i cursed to only rent my dream home, its like i love the house but it just wants to stay friends and not let me wallpaper it. that analogy works, right?

last of all is this slice of awesome: a 1973 ikea catalogue as seen on the retro! blog (yes i know its in swedish, but the swedes have all the good pictures of stuff). it hadn’t actually occurred to me that there might be ikea catalogues from the past. ikea in my mind is just very now and though i know it’s old, i just assumed it was much smaller and not-cataloged. but this discovery has lead to a dangerous new ebay saved search! oh for a time machine…
what about you? what are you pining for this month, and would you like to borrow my time machine to visit 1973 ikea?

“VOLUME 1Josef Albers Color Theory, A Mid Century Modern Knoll Fabric, Oscar Wilde, the exuberant paint colors used to decorate the walls of the Federalist period, a color of an Andy Warhol painting at the Dia Museum, the color Puce which I remember mixing when oil painting as a child, a green – winged teal, the dark inky blue of a never ending deep lake at night and the fear of swimming in it, and of course the red Valentine typewriter.”
what i’m coveting

♥ Starting with the book ‘Naive: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design’. This only just came out but i can’t wait to have a flick through. Check it out at Amazon! It looks packed with amazing work from some super talented people and there is also a great collection of previews over at Print & Pattern. The blurb states:
“Inspired by twentieth century American legends such as Saul Bass…Charley Harper and … Alexander Girard, these burgeoning designers are creating new and striking imagery using palettes of earthy and pastel shades, reduced strokes, patterns and shapes with a strong folkloristic element.”
♥ Next, Stroboscopica albums! Oh my gosh, i do love some strange music. While rummaging through the racks at a great little music shop in Adelaide, i turned up a copy of Phase 6 Super Stereo: Introducing the Alternative Italian B-Movie Soundtrack and as soon as i listened to it once i was hooked. i needed more of these crazy, euro, organ freak-outs! After googling the label Phase 6 was released on i found there was indeed more organ freak-out to be heard. They’re discontinued, but they’re out there, and for $99+ they won’t be coming to my house anytime soon unfortunately.
♥ Yves Saint Laurent Biarritz heart sandals are one of those things that, I’m not sure I’d really wear a pair, but oh how their existence makes my heart smile. In the parallel universe in which i own and wear them, I’m tanned, lithe and spend my days sunning myself on a yacht.. cruising around mykonos.. also, i look great in a kaftan. Like i said, parallel universe. Another reason i like them is they’re like the summer equivalent of the Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon Melissas. So you can wear your heart on your toes year-’round!
♥ Lastly, Alain Gree bento boxes. They’re really just too cute for words, aren’t they? I want to keep all kinds of tiny cakes and treasures in them and color co-ordinate my shoes with them.
So thats all for now, but never fear, i find new stuff to covet all the time!
