dear santa,

you know, and i know, that i’ve been REALLY good this year. so lets stop this messin’ around and howsabout you bring me some of these treasures on my love list?

i’m not sure i even need to TELL you why i want this brooch by ‘friends with you’?! its just cool! and i have several lapels going unadorned at the current time.

books! books! books! i can never ever get enough. this christmas i’m wishing for:

the les mason epicurean magazine exhibition book, by the narrows gallery
20th Century Pattern Design by lesley jackson
and v&a pattern: pop patterns by oriole cullen

just when i think i’ve had enough of the stem pattern, along comes a bright yellow bag to prove otherwise. the orla kiely stem sparrow bag really needs to be in my wardrobe, and more often, on my arm.

all you need is love. in pin brooch form! a souvenir brooch from gemma’s bright signs show is just what i need to keep my OTHER lapel cozy.

and now my son is too big for blocks i suppose i have to just call these alexander girard blocks an executive desk toy? better become an executive quick smart!!

so thats just about it for me, santa. oh and if you could just go ahead and drop in a couple of airfares to new york via tokyo that’d be greeeaaaaat.

time machine: the best of drawpilgrim.com, september 2010

in september 2010 … my son turned 4 and had a space birthday party!

i showed three rooms decorated around my ‘little girls print’

we had lady’s nite! and i made an all girl mixtape

i swooned over sean yseult’s silk scarf designs

the groovy illustrations by sandra smith in ‘firebrand‘ was top of my bookpile.

i hope you find something fun you might have missed – september was a fun month*

*except for that bit were i was really really sick and convinced i was dying.

as seen on etsy: peanut butter and jelly

i’m a big fan of the purple and golden ochre/’peanut butter and jelly’ color combination: its unexpected, sophisticated but still fun. throw it in some groovy patterns and designs and i’m weak at the knees. how do you feel about these colors together?

ah! you found me hiding out here at my new hosting place. what do you think? if you find anything a bit wonky let me know, some things are still being polished. there are some new features, and some expanded ones too. take some time to have a look around and get involved, if you’d like to be added to the blog roll let me know!

this weeks etsy is one of my favorite accessories – a cheery enamel flower brooch, it always peps me up!

last weekend i decided to pretty up a pair of plain slip on shoes i have by making up some felt flower clip-on’s. i think felt is just the cutest medium for crafting, if you’re lucky and have access to good quality felt it will have a really nice thickness and will come in just about any color you dream. i got my gorgeous felt from little sparrow.

add a cute button if you like

i made up this bold little flower design and if you’d like to make one too, click here for a printable pattern. the flower clip-on is quick, easy and its versatile. clip it on your hair one day, and the next try it on your lapel. i’m sure you could think of a thousand more uses!

why settle for accessories that look like everyone else’s when you can craft a little something to set you apart from the crowd? and even better, its no trouble if you change your mind: just un-clip them!

did i mention you can make them without sewing? you can either sew them onto the hair clips or use a hot glue gun if you’re staunchly anti-sew.

sewing not necessary!

if you use my pattern, i’d love you to show your results with a link in the comments. happy DIYing!

Alexander Girard (1907–1993) is one of the greatest colorists, pattern makers, environmental and exhibition designers of the 20th century. Hired by Herman Miller in1952, he led the company’s textile division where he brought color and life to the modern furniture creations of George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames.

built + alexander girard features really practical bags and pouches in alexander girard’s eye popping classic designs, plus they come with a cute ‘love’ heart charm! how can you resist?

last friday i accompanied my boy to the riot record’s christmas party. some of you may already know my boyfriend is a music journalist who runs a brain meltingly awesome guitar site. so this is how my twee little self ended up at a metal record label’s party! it wasn’t as brutal as i was warned it might be, so i survived and no bat’s head’s were harmed in the making of this post.

here is what i wore:

psychedelic top: vintage
short cardigan: miss shop, myer
black pencil skirt: american apparel
purple tights: the sock shop
white boots: vintage
purple bag (pictured below): mywalit

isn’t this bag nifty? its just plain purple on the outside but inside oooh! colors! and its really soft leather, and just the right size to hold the bare essentials.
